Covid-19 Breathless!

I don’t have COVID-19 because I can hold my breath for 10 seconds or more.

The World Health Organization (WHO)states that it is not true that if you can hold your breath for 10 seconds or longer.

There is a lot of misinformation regarding Covid-19. Disinformation can be harmful to yourself, family and friends. CovTalk.com is trying to dispel the myths and falsehoods out there to help you protect your loved ones.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are relatively non-specific and many people may be asymptomatic. Two very common symptoms are a fever of 37.8C or 100.4F and a dry cough. Other symptoms are not as prevalent such as fatigue, respiratory sputum production (phlegm), loss of the sense of smell, shortness of breath, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, headache, chills, vomiting, hemoptysis, diarrhea, or cyanosis (bluish discoloration of the skin).

Some cases of Covid impair infected persons breathing. This is not true in all cases. Therefor an urban myth has been born that if you can hold your breath for 10 seconds or longer you do not have SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19). You can have the disease and still be able to hold your breath for that length of time.

If you are experiencing a fever and dry cough then follow your local health authority’s suggestions on what you should do. Each area has a different set of criteria and how to go about being tested or treated if you fear you have contracted COVID-19.

Remember washing your hands frequently and in the correct manner can help ward off the virus. Practicing social-distancing or social-isolating can protect not only your self but others around you as well.
